Mockingbirds - General Information
Mockingbirds - Reproduction
The eggs of Mockingbirds are smooth and oval. They are bluish or greenish gray heavily marked with spots in various shades of brown. The female incubates them for 12-13 days, while the male gets food and defends the territory. If disturbed during incubation, Mockingbirds may abandon the eggs, but not the youth. Mockingbirds are born with their eyes closed, weak, naked, and helpless. At the age of about 12 days, the chicks venture from the nest and hop around on the ground. Parents still feed them up to 5 times per hour before they can fly. If you find a hopping chick, leave it alone. The parents will continue to care for it. Mockingbirds reach sexual maturity at the age of 1 year. Mockingbirds - General Info Links
